The entire community of Ocilla and Irwin County mourns the loss of Mrs. Gussie Clara Davis Phillips.  She was a lifelong resident of this area of South Georgia born on February 25, 1924, in the same home on East 6^th Street where she departed life late in the evening of January 2, 2025. 

Mrs. Phillips was the last remaining child of Frank and Leona Davis and is survived by her daughter Karen Phillips and her husband, Handy Johnson, sister-in-law, Josephine S. Davis, and the offspring of her seven siblings - Clarence, Leoanard Mae, Annie Lee, Badger, Stephen, Ernest, and Curtis. 

Davis Funeral Home has been charged with the funeral arrangements. The celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 2:30 PM at the Irwin County high school auditorium, 149 Chiefton Circle, Ocilla Georgia   31774.

Dr. Louis Forsythe II, pastor of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist church of Detroit Michigan will deliver the eulogy and committal.  Interment will follow in the Ocilla city cemetery, 700 North Oak Street in Ocilla Georgia.  Mrs. Gilyard will lie in state at the Davis funeral home in Ocilla, Saturday afternoon 2:00 until 6:00 p.m.  The Davis funeral home in Ocilla has charge of all arrangements.
